There is no doubt that Dolphins wicketkeeper-batsman Grant Roelofsen has proven to be one of the breakthrough talents of the season, writes Khalid Mohidin.

The 23-year-old former King Edwards VII student made a move to Pietermaritzburg to play for Kwa-Zulu Natal Inland, after playing 6 first-class games and 1 List A game for Gauteng.

A call from Shane Burger convinced him to make the move, and the rest was history.

He averaged 57.25 in 19 first-class games for KZN scoring 1374 in 19 games which included 5 centuries and 5 half-centuries.

He backed this up with an incredible 4-Day campaign thus far, scoring 575 runs in seven matches with a high score of 142.

Although he has received loads of praise for his red-ball performances, he believes that his stats prove that he can play across all formats.

Rightly so, as his performances have helped the Dolphins occupy the top spot on the One-Day Cup log. After 5 games for the Dolphins, he averaged 83, with 333 runs, a top score of 147 not out and a strike rate of 102.

The reason for his success? Simply put by him, he’s been “hungry for runs”.
