The Cricket South Africa Women’s Provincial One-Day Tournament kicked off in a bio-secure environment in Johannesburg on Saturday, running from the 23rd to 28th October.

The top six Provincial women’s teams in the country are battling it out in this tournament – Western Province, Northerns, KZN Coastal, North West, Central Gauteng Lions, and Easterns.

Western Province vs Northerns

Paulina Mashishi picked up 4 crucial wickets, helping her team to victory against Western Province in their first game of the tournament. SA players Saarah Smith, Sinalo Jafta and Faye Tunnicliffe all fell to Mashishi, as well as the experienced Alexis le Breton. All four of these batters together scored just 16 runs. Mashishi was the pick of the bowlers for Northerns, picking up 4 wickets for only 26 runs, with an economy of 2.60. Western Province were bowled out for 170 in 38.5 overs, with Delmari Tucker top-scoring – 60 runs at a run a ball. She had some help from Andrie Steyn scoring a half-century (51), but it ultimately wasn’t enough as the rest of the team scored just 49 runs collectively. In defence, Western Province fought hard, picking up 8 wickets, however, Northerns were able to chase the score down in 43.5 overs. Gandhi Jafta top-scored for Northerns, with 81 off 101 balls.

KZN Coastal vs North West:

Chloe Tryon top-scored out of all three games that took place today, however, it was in a losing cause. KZN Coastal’s Tryon played a very decent but lone knock, scoring 86 runs in 85 balls, helping her team limp to 146 all out in 42 overs. Her innings included eleven out of the fifteen 4s in the innings and two out of the three 6s in the innings. Only one other team member got into double figures. Nthabiseng Nini starred for North West, picking up 3 scalps for 25 runs. Tryon’s heroics were in vain as North West comfortably chased the score down in 32.1 overs, with Izel Cilliers and Tazmin Brits scoring the bulk of the runs – 66 and 63 runs respectively.

Central Gauteng Lions vs Easterns:

The Lions batted first, posting 187 all out in 40.3 overs. There weren’t any big scores to speak of, as Alysia Rudolph of Easterns picked up 4 wickets. In pursuit of 188, Easterns fell well short, being able to score only 102 runs. They were bowled out in 33.2 overs, with Yolani Fourie and Kgomotso Rapoo of the Lions both picking up 3 wickets respectively.
