Western Province bowled the Lions out for 225 on day one of the 4-Day Series Final, Dane Paterson taking his 21st 5-for.

Western Province won the toss and Kyle Verreynne was uncertain what to do. He opted to bowl first in gloomy morning conditions, and it worked out perfectly for his side. 

The Lions’ star-studded top order collapsed to 112-7, Dane Paterson and Beuran Hendricks sharing the responsibility of toppling the top four, the former removing Joshua Richards (1) Zubayr Hamza (0) and Temba Bavuma (0). 

Mihlali Mpongwana took the other three wickets, with Wiaan Mulder (41) the most important one of the bunch. 

Delano Potgieter never gave up the fight, he scored 81 off 106 balls, but Paterson continued his brilliant execution to nick him off and reduce the Lions to 166-8.

He made it a 5-for with wicket of Codi Yusuf (34).

Theo tail did enough to stick around and frustrate WP, as they passed the 200-run mark. 

Mpongwana finally took the last wicket to remove Siboto for 32 to end the Lions’ innings on 225. 

Eddie Moore (35) and Tony de Zorzi (12) got off to a flying start for WP and managed to keep their wickets till the close of play.

They posted 49-0 after 9 overs.
