Ryan Rickelton, the hard-hitting Proteas left-hander, is on course to get his first taste of county cricket as Northamptonshire have recruited him as their overseas pro for their next two Championship fixtures against Warwickshire and Kent.
It’s been quite a year for the 25-year-old, who got a Test debut against Bangladesh after being part of the squad for the previous two series against India and New Zealand.
Rickelton boasts an impressive first-class average of 50, and will bring plenty of potential to the table for Northants. They’re currently in the bottom half of the Division 1 table, and are in need for a few wins to turn their fortunes around.
Despite being a stopgap signing, Rickelton has lots of incentive to perform, given the level of competition for new batters in the Test side. Nonetheless, it will be a rewarding experience in itself.
