After scoring 149 of the 320 runs scored in the first innings of the Titans clash against the Warriors, the 26-year-old backed that up with another century in the second innings scoring 121.

Doubts have recently arisen over Markram’s position in the Proteas setup, with some fans suggesting that other players as more worthy of being Dean Elgar’s partner for the Sri Lanka series.
After scoring 157 against Australia on 30 Mar 2018, Markram went 19 innings without scoring a century, averaging 22.31 with 3 half-centuries and 4 ducks.
This raised concerns from fans surrounding his selection in the national side, particularly after scoring 20 and 2 against England on boxing day 2019. This came after a long injury lay-off after sustaining a hand injury in India.
When the Proteas’ limited-overs squad was named without Markram’s name on the list, some fans on our call-in shows seemed devastated with his omittance, while others felt that it was a strategic move by the Proteas brains trust to allow him to gain form ahead of the Sri Lanka series in the longer format.
Despite being told that he is a fan-favourite, Markram was adamant that he needed “earn his way back into the national sides” when I spoke to him at Newlands in the opening game of the 4-Day Series.
Although he started the campaign slowly, 2, 4, 17 and 19* in the Titans’ opening two victories, he made up for it in Round 3 by doubling up. This should surely give him a shoo-in for Test selection.
