Kwena Maphaka’s 5-34 set up a dominant nine-wicket win for South Africa U19 against Zimbabwe in the Super Sixes of the U19 World Cup on Wednesday.
South Africa U19s dominated Zimbabwe. They were on top from the start, after winning the toss and electing to bowl first in Potchefstroom.
Things started off shaky for Zimbabwe when Nathaniel Hlabangana was run out on the last ball of the second over, and they never recovered from there.
Kwena Maphaka was fantastic taking a five-for, four of those wickets were beautiful clean bowled deliveries, and Zimbabwe was unable to handle the skill from the young superstar. He finished with 5-34.
He now has three five-fors in the tournament. This is now the joint-most five-wicket hauls in Youth ODI history. Maphaka is now also third on South Africa’s all-time wicket-takers list in U19 cricket.
Tristan Luus was also fantastic picking up 3-25, while Riley Norton chipped in with 1-7.
Zimbabwe were all out for 102.
South Africa’s reply with the bat was almost flawless.
Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Steve Stolk took SA U19 to 86 in 10 overs, when the latter lost his wicket after a 29-ball 37 (6 fours, 1 six).
Pretorius batted till the end, bringing up his first half-century of the tournament. He scored 53 off 39 balls (9 fours, 1 six).
South Africa completed their victory in 13.3 overs.
