Mahmudul Joy scored the first Test century by a Bangladesh batter against South Africa home or away as the visitors were all out for 298 on Day 3 before the rain and bad light stopped play.

Joy guided Bangladesh to a decent first innings total of 298 all out on Day 3.

Night watchmen, Taskin Ahmed, paired with the settled 21-year-old Mahmudul Joy at the start of play on Day 3. Ahmed did not last long as Lizaad Williams had him caught at gully by Wiaan Mulder. Williams picked up his maiden Test wicket.

Joy was joined by the talented Litton Das at the crease with the visitors on 101-5. Das and Joy put together an 82-run partnership before Das was bowled by Williams for a hard-fought 41.

A mix up between Joy and Yasir Chowdhury (22 off 37) led to South Africa getting their seventh wicket courtesy of a brilliant runout combination of Ryan Rickelton and Kyle Verreynne.

The South Africa bowlers were decent throughout the day but were not as clinical as they needed to be in a gloomy Kingsmead Stadium. Joy ground his way to Bangladesh’s first Test century against South Africa at home or away.

Duanne Olivier and Mulder claimed the remaining wickets. The duo ensured that the Proteas have a 69 run lead after bowling out the visitors for 298 runs.

The third innings of the match lasted only 4 overs in which Dean Elgar and Sarel Erwee opened the batting for South Africa.

The match was brought to a stop due to bad light at the Kingsmead in Durban. South Africa is 6-0 in four overs and have a lead of 75 runs in their second innings.
