Lizelle Lee’s unbeaten 132 got the Momentum Proteas over the line with a DLS win by 6 runs to take them 2-1 up in the 5-match ODI series.
Stand-in captain Laura Wolvaardt, in the absence of the ill Suné Luus, won the toss and elected to bowl first.
At one stage it looked like India would score 270+, but the Momentum Proteas’ bowlers pulled them back well, seeing the Indians post what was still a very competitive total of 248 in their 50 overs.
Punam Raut was the standout for India with 77 runs off 108 balls, and Shabnim Ismail the standout for the Proteas, picking up 2/46 in her 10 overs.
The Momentum Proteas came out needing 249 to win the game. Despite Lee losing partners throughout the innings, she was the mainstay for South Africa, scoring 132 runs off 131 balls. In this outstanding innings, she hit 16 fours and 2 sixes, scoring all around the ground.
This was just her third ODI hundred and her first against India. Mignon du Preez also played a hand, scoring 37 off 46 balls and formed a crucial partnership with Lee, which proved to be a match-winning partnership.
The Proteas scored 223-4, before the rain put an end to the game, seeing the Momentum Proteas win by 6 runs (D/L Method).
