The Lions fought back brilliantly to win the 4-Day Series final against Western Province at the Wanderers.
For three days Western Province had control in the match, but resurgence from the Lions on day four and five was key to their victory.
Delano Potgieter deserves a lot of the credit, his 155 taking the Lions from 159-7 to 394 in their second innings.
This was the game changer.
With a target of 308, WP started Day 5 on 99-3.
Half-centuries from Tony de Zorzi and Daniel Smith kept WP in the game, but it wasn’t enough to take the team over the line.
WP couldn’t handle the spin of Bjorn Fortuin who finished with 5-69.
The visitors were bowled out for 208 and the Lions claimed a 99-run win.
