The Lions have officially booked their spot in the final against the Dolphins, courtesy another resounding victory.

It was win or bust for both teams, and the Warriors opted to bat first. Sisanda Magala and Kagiso Rabada were both back in the Lions bowling attack.

JJ Smuts and Wihan Lubbe, who was opening for the first time, put together 71 runs for the first wicket, which is the best in this tournament. As it’s been all week, the introduction of spin brought about the breakthrough as Aaron Phangiso trapped Smuts in front.

Lubbe would go on to make a brisk half-century, but runs began to dry up after he got out.

Tristan Stubbs inflicted a much-needed counterattack, scoring a handy 37 from 26 with 2 fours and 2 sixes. However, some skillful death bowling from the Lions meant that 141 was all that the Warriors would get.

Reeza Hendricks came out swinging early on, unlike his approach in some of the earlier games. His rapid 32 and the 59-run opening stand with Ryan Rickelton took away much of the pressure early on.

After the opening pair were dismissed, Temba Bavuma produced yet another priceless knock at #3, and added 61 with Rassie van der Dussen. The Lions didn’t have to worry about the run rate, as they were well ahead of the pace throughout the innings. It was only fitting that a six from Wiaan Mulder ended the game.

It all boils down to tomorrow’s game, as two quality sides lock horns and the winner takes all.

Warriors 141/6 in 20 overs (Lubbe 52, Stubbs 37 – Mulder 1/11, Phangiso 1/20)

Lions 142/3 in 19.1 overs (Bavuma 48*, R Hendricks 32 – Nabe 2/25)
