At the KFC Mini Cricket National Seminar, Khalid Mohidin caught up with the National Convenor of Selectors, Victor Mpitsang who expressed the importance of the KFC Mini-Cricket to the progress of South African cricket.
“It’s the introductory part of cricket where boys and girls can be introduced to this lovely game that we all love,” explained Mpitsang.
“Sportsmen and women you interview will tell you about coaches inspired them.”
Mpitsang emphasized the importance of coaches at the grassroots level because they introduce young children to cricket.
“Most of them (coaches) have been ladies, I was introduced to the game of cricket by a lady. She made sure I was there,” he reminisced.
Given the devastating economic consequences for corporates since the COVID-19 pandemic begun, Mpitsang is grateful for KFC’s continued support in helping Cricket South Africa develop grassroots cricket.
“We are hoping that the numbers do grow because the bigger the base of players, the bigger it is for us to see this talent, get introduced to this talent and make sure that the system becomes stronger. KFC Mini Cricket is one of the most pivotal aspects of our game.”
