Keshav Maharaj hit his 4th Test half-century to help the Proteas post 384-7 by Lunch on Day 2 of the 2nd Test against Bangladesh.

The Proteas had their work cut out for them on Day 2. In order to get themselves to the desired total above 300, they would need Kyle Verreynne and Wiaan Mulder to show the form they have in domestic cricket.

The hosts benefited from Bangladesh not having 3 slips in place, with a few runs leaking to the boundary through the vacant area off the batters’ edge.

Verreynne took two steps to his right and played an excellent cover drive to bring up South Africa’s 300-run mark.

But that was where his contribution ended. Khaled Ahmed pitched up a beautiful straight delivery and Kyle Verreynne missed his straight drive and the ball crashed into the middle stump.

This came after an altercation between the two players in the previous over, which saw Khaled throw a delivery at the batter after he hit it back to the bowler. The ball hit Verryenne’s hand when he wasn’t looking and the two exchanged some words.

Unfortunately for South Africa, Khaled one the battle with that beautiful peach of a delivery.

In came Keshav Maharaj and he went about his business as expected – not afraid to play with intent.

In the 100th over, he targetted Taijul. He hit a massive pull shot for six, and shortly after a beautiful push off the back foot to the boundary through the offside.

The pair kept the scoreboard ticking closer to 350, but it was a beautiful drive from Mulder that took them to the milestone.

Mulder hit a massive six over long-on against Mehidy which was one of the shots of the day.

Then came Keshav’s 4th Test half-century, he brought it up with a massive six over long-on which bettered Mulder’s shot earlier.

Mulder was then dismissed by Taijul who took out his off stump, he lost his chance to reach that first milestone after 33 off 77 balls.
