Keegan Petersen and Sarel Erwee put on an incredible 337-run partnership against the Lions, as we wrap up Day 3 of the first round of 4-Day Series fixtures.
Sarel Erwee came up agonizingly short of what would’ve been a commanding double century, but he and Keegan Petersen adding a total of 337 runs was the most climactic event of Day 3. For Petersen, this was a knock of immense importance – scoring 173 in his first game for his new franchise could well and truly be the start of a very productive season in the making.
Captain Marques Ackerman chipped in with a handy unbeaten 52, and stalwart Proteas spinner Keshav Maharaj made three inroads towards the back end of the day. The Lions are staring down a deficit of 125, and the Dolphins are in pole position.
Dolphins 458/3 (Erwee 199, Petersen 173 – D Pretorius 1-44)
Lions 258 + 75/3 (R Hendricks 38 – Maharaj 3-37)
Despite a strong comeback late in the game from the Warriors, the situation is looking quite sure. They’re trailing by 193 with three wickets in hand. It’s been a valiant effort from Matthew Breetzke, who has responsibly batted through the whole innings thus far. However, the Knights look well on course to bag their first victory.
Knights 430/6(d) + 93/8(d) (Snyman 33 -. Nabe 3-22)
Warriors 158 + 173/7 (Breetzke 71* – M Pretorius 3-25)
Kyle Verreynne starred for the Cobras, as they set 316 for the Titans to chase. However, a 105-run opening stand between Proteas duo Elgar and Markram spearheaded a spirited fightback. Theunis de Bruyn will be the key for his side as this game looks evenly poised.
Cape Cobras 264/9 + 201 (Verreynne 85 – Shamsi 4-79)
Titans 150 + 195/3 (de Bruyn 63*, Elgar 58 – Linde 2-66)
