Kagiso Rabada took three crucial wickets to give South Africa a fighting chance in the 2nd Test against India at the Wanderers.

The visitors took their lead to 161 with SA needing 4 wickets with the aim of trying to keep them under 200.

The Proteas bowlers took some frustrating punishment in the first session of Day 3. They struggled to find the troublesome areas that aided the India bowlers on Day 2. They were particularly failing to find that crack that aided Shardul Thakur who took 7/61 to skittle SA for 229.

India started the day on 85/2 with a lead of 58 runs. It was crucial that the Proteas slowed down the run rate and made it difficult for the batters to play shots. In the first hour, India was scoring at 5.30 runs an over.

The Rahane and Pujara partnership was worth 111 off 144 balls. But then came a massive game-changing couple of overs from KG. He dismissed Ajinkya Rahane (58), Cheteshwar Pujara (53) and Rishabh Pant (0).

The wicket of Pant was particularly impressive. He banged in a nasty bouncer at the left-hander beating him all ends up. The following ball, Pant tried to follow it up by dancing down the track with a massive swing and found the nick to the keeper, Verreynne.

Lungi Ngidi, who struggled to find a wicket, managed to break the drought and removed the dangerous Ravichandran Ashwin for 16 off 14 balls. He tried to play off his pads and was strangled down the leg side finding a feather of an edge to the keeper.

India ended on 188-6 with a lead of 161.
