India started their day on 9-0 in pursuit of South Africa’s 489.

As expected, the first hour never troubled India as they settled into the match.

The opening partnership grew steadily to 65. At the latter stage of the first session, Keshav Maharaj got the first wicket – KL Rahul edging a turner to first slip.

Yashasvi Jaiswal brought up his half-century. Not long after, Jaiswal (58) popped Harmer to backward point. India were 95-2.

Just on the stroke of tea, Harmer struck again. Sai Sudharsan’s (15) pull shot went in the direction of midwicket, and Rickelton dove to his left to take a superb catch.

Dhruv Jurel fell shortly after; his pull shot popped the ball to mid-on.

Tea was called with India on 102-4.

Not long into the second session, Rishabh Pant came down the track to try and smash a Jansen back-of-a-length delivery and instead found a faint edge to the keeper. India were now 105-5.

Jansen struck again, this time he banged in a short ball at Nitish Kumar Reddy, he tried to defend it down, but instead it hit the top of the bat and flew to the gully region. Markram ran to his right and flung himself at full stretch to grab it one-handed. India were now 120-6.

He then banged in another short ball, this time at Jadeja, who turned to avoid it. But it hit his shoulder, then the bat and flew to Harmer in the slip cordon. India were 122-7.

Washington Sundar (33*) offered resistance. With the help of Kuldeep (14*), they took India to 174-7 by lunch.

Sundar got himself to 48, when Harmer drew him into edging the delivery to slip. India were 194-8.

Jansen sealed his five-for, a fourth of his career, when Kuldeep could not pull his bat away from a shorter delivery in time, guiding the ball to Markram at slip. This was Markram’s 5th catch – the 2nd South African to do so after Graeme Smith.

India were 194-9.

Jansen (6-48) took his 6th with another short delivery, and Bumrah tried to pull, but instead uppercutted the ball into the air. Verreynne stood still, kept his eyes on the ball and took a simple catch.

India were all out for 201, 288 runs behind. South Africa opted to bat again.

South Africa ended the day on 26-0 with a lead of 314.
