India continued to add pressure on South Africa with every run scored as they took their lead to 143 by lunch on Day 3 of the 3rd Test at Six Gun Grill Newlands.
Two early strikes in the morning session of Day 3, saw the Proteas strike early to inject tension into fans. Rabada and Jansen, who have been the lead wicket-takers in the series, continued to hassle the India top order.
Jansen struck on the second ball of the day, his pace, bounce and angle strangled Cheteshwar Pujara down the leg side for a sensational one-handed catch at leg slip by Keagen Petersen.
Next to go was Ajinkya Rahane, courtesy of Kagiso Rabada who bowled a beautiful delivery that the batter gloved. Kyle Verreynne leapt to snatch the ball out of the air, but it hit his glove and flew to Elgar at first slip – the skipper alert enough to cover the keeper for the rebound.
India took their lead past the 100-run mark. Captain Kohli got stuck in, playing a patient and cautious knock. He scored just 14 runs in the session. It was Rishabh Pant who scored 51 off 60 balls to give India the edge in the contest despite the two early wickets.
Their partnership of 72 runs took India took a lead of 143 into lunch and ended the session on 130/4.
