“It’s been great to be back with the Titans guys playing the One-Day Cup. It’s been really enjoyable so far,” Aiden Markram told Cricket Fanatics Magazine at Newlands.
Markram attributed his consistent run-scoring in the One-Day Cup to the rest he got after the T20 World Cup in Australia. Given the unrelenting cricket calendar, the few weeks off he had prior to the One-Day Cup reinvigorated him.
After a poor run with the South African Test team, Markram was not selected for the Test tour of Australia. He said, “We, as players, don’t control selection. We, at the end of the day, need to score runs. That’s where the focus is. I’m not desperate to be selected. That’s not a good place to be in.”
Asked about South Africa’s loss to the Netherlands, which ended South Africa’s run at the T20 World Cup, Markram reflected, “It was a tough pill to swallow, everyone will admit that. It’s not for a lack of trying. These things happen. It’s also an indication that the Associate Nations that are coming through are improving at a drastic rate, and there are no easy games anymore.”
Returning to the Titans environment after a long stint with the national team, Markram is impressed with the team culture at the Titans. “Still feels like home,” he said.
