Shabnim Ismail won big at the Cricket South Africa annual awards ceremony.
Named Women’s Cricketer Of The Year, T20 Cricketer Of The Year, and Player’s Player Of The Year, Ismail felt vindicated that “the hard work I’ve been putting in behind the scenes has been paying off.”
Crediting the team for her success, Ismail said, “It is a team sport after all and my personal experiences – the way I’ve been training and the way I’ve been doing things behind the scenes – I’m just really grateful to get the award.”
Pleased to win the T20 Cricketer Of The Year for the second time in a row, Ismail is driven by the intensity of the format. “The adrenaline just kicks off in me. When I step over that rope, beast mode kicks in.”
Ismail is grateful for the coaching and management staff. “We have a new strength and conditioning coach. He’s been helping loads. The management team – they’ve been really great towards me. That just motivates one to do well in every game.”
Having won two series against Pakistan and India, Ismail attributed the team’s success to the team environment. “In the team environment, the way the team has been gelling, it has been showing on the field.”
