Simon Harmer was wicketless in the first innings of their encounter with Surrey. In the second innings, Harmer stuck to the script as Essex’s match winner when he returned figures of 7-58 to lead Essex to a massive win.
The former Proteas spinner sits comfortably at the top of County Championship’s wickets tally with 78 wickets at an average of 18.11.
Playing in his third season for Essex, the 30-year-old has taken a total of 207 wickets at an average of 20.24.
Essex take on Somerset on the 23rd of September in their final match of the season.
Kyle Abbott took a record-breaking 17 wickets in Hampshire’s County Championship Division One victory over Sormerset at the Rose Bowl on Wednesday.
Abbott picked up 9-40 in the first innings and followed up with 8-46 in the second innings to complete a match tally of 17-86.
The 32-year-old has been in phenomenal form for Hampshire this season, after 13 matches he sits second in the tournament’s wicket tally with 68 wickets at an average of 15.70.
He has managed six 5-fors and one 10-for.
Hampshire takes on Kent on the 23rd of September in their final match of the season.
