The rain in Port Elizabeth might be what the Proteas need to tilt the conditions in their favor on day two of the third Test match.
The past couple of days in the friendly city have been very hot with the average maximum temperatures at over 27 degrees Celsius. Obviously, this affected the captain’s decisions in terms of selecting the starting eleven and deciding what to do at the coin toss.
As we have seen on day one, the wicket was slow and it was very hard for the slower seamers to get anything from the wicket. Faf du Plessis could only use Vernon Philander for only eleven overs on day one because nothing was happening for Big Vern.
But, the weather has changed and the gloomy conditions might bring the ‘Surgeon’ into play for longer periods of time on day two. If the rain stops and play resumes, it will be crucial for the Proteas bowlers to take advantage of these conditions.
