We wrap up Day 2 of the CSA T20 Challenge which saw North West Dragons and Dolphins claim victories.

Imperial Lions vs North West Dragons: Dragons won by 11 runs

The Dragons were asked to bat first by the Lions and they did not have a great start as Wesley Marshall (16 off 10 with three 4s) departed in the third over of the innings thanks to Codi Yusuf’s (2-24 in 4 overs) good lines and lengths. Heino Kuhn followed soon after as he fell victim to good quality bowling from Malusi Siboto (1-34 in 4 overs). Nono Pongolo and Duan Jansen put together a 57-run-partnership which took Dragons from 79-6 in the 15th over to 136-6 after 20 overs.

Dragons’ spinner, Johannes Diseko, put on a bowler-of-the-match performance for his figures of 2-17 in 4 overs and prevented the Lions from chasing what was thought to be a low total for a team of Lions’ calibre. Mitchell Van Buuren (65 off 56 with six 4s) was the only Lions batter who fought for the team as most batters failed to deliver.

Itec Knights vs Hollywoodbets Dolphins: Dolphins won by 8 wickets

Skipper, Prenelan Subrayen, led the Dolphins bowling attack with superb figures of 1-13 in his 4 overs and received notable support from Odirile Modimokoane (1-27 in 4 overs) and together were able to ensure that no Knights batter got a score of over 40 and reduced them to a total of 128-5.

Farhaan Behardien finished unbeaten on 36 off 29 with one 4 and one 6. Defending a low total, Knights needed to give nothing away more especially against an explosive batting order but Mangaliso Mosehle failed to go for what looked to be a regulation wicket-keeper catch as Keegan Petersen (45 off 37 with six 4s and one 6) edged the first ball of the Dolphins innings off the bowling of Migael Pretorious (0-11 in 2 overs).

Petersen and Grant Roelofsen (27 off 35 with one 4 and one 6) made Knights pay for that error by putting together a 74-run-partnership, thus laying a solid foundation for Proteas duo Andile Phehlukwayo (15 off 17 with one 4) and David Miller (34 off 22 with five 4s and one 6) to do what we all know them for, chasing totals and winning matches together.
