“Slow and dry conditions do not necessarily equate to spinning conditions.”
The Proteas have been wary of the spin threat at the T20 World Cup in the UAE because of a combination of factors such as the heat and the amount of traffic on the pitches, given the second leg of the IPL was played there.
However, statistics from the last two IPL editions suggest that although these pitches are slow and dry, the leading wicket-takers have been fast bowlers.
The evidence suggests that these pitches are not necessarily rank turners. Spinners will still have a role to play, but they will not be able to extract significant turn from these wickets.
