Cobras vs Titans, Day 2, Round 1

Fourteen wickets were claimed today as the young, new-look Cobras are maintaining their advantage over the Titans.

Interestingly, Proteas opener Dean Elgar scored a shade over two-thirds of the Titans’ runs, while none of the others crossed 20. Left-arm spinner George Linde was the pick of the bowlers, and seamer Tshepo Moreki impressed as well.

The Titans fought back with a few quick wickets in the Cobras’ second innings, but a priceless half-century from Kyle Verreynne has steadied the situation well. Onke Nyaku was run out just before the close of play, but a lead of 235 of Cobras is already quite substantial considering they have five wickets in hand.

Cape Cobras 264/9 + 121/5 (Verreynne 50* – L Williams 2-10)

Titans 151 (Elgar 101 – Linde 5-65, Moreki 3-24)

A scintillating century from the experienced opener Sarel Erwee was undoubtedly the highlight. Beuran Hendricks dismissed Grant Roelofsen early, but Test hopeful Keegan Petersen provided excellent support with a stately, unbeaten 59.
