The Proteas bowlers, led by a 5-for from Gerald Coetzee, helped set up an ODI series victory for South Africa A against Sri Lanka A in Kandy.
A dominant bowling performance by the Proteas set up a comfortable win for South Africa A.
Gerald Coetzee finished with figures of 5-48 and was supported brilliantly by his bowlers Senuran Muthusamy (2-42), Lizaad Williams (1-22), Beyers Swanepoel (1-15) and Tristan Stubbs (1-5).
They skittled Sri Lanka for 172 in 42.3 overs. The only resistance by the hosts came from their No 6 batter Sahan Arachchige who scored 63 from 103 balls and their No 4 batter Ashen Bandara (36 from 49 balls).
Most of the others were dismissed on single-digit scores with only two batters managing scores in the teens.
South Africa A’s response, was not perfect with the bat. Stubbs and Muthusamy were the stars of the day, taking their team over the line with a solid performance.
Other than Stubbs, SA A’s top six struggled for a third consecutive game – Kyle Verreynne (19), Zubayr Hamza (19), and Sinethemba Qeshile (15) were the only ones registering scores in the teens.
Muthusamy came to the crease with the SA A on 101-5 and supported Stubbs well in a 74-run partnership. Stubbs finished with 58 off 93 balls and Muthusamy hit the winning runs to post 45 from 55 balls and secure the 5-wicket victory along with the series. 2-1.
