Marizanne Kapp and Tazmin Brits’ 69-run partnership helped the Proteas go 1-0 up in the T20 Series against Pakistan.
In the first T20 of the series, Pakistani won the toss and opted to bat for a change.
Aliya Riaz took over the captaincy from the injured Javeria Khan. Pakistan yet again lost early wickets, via Marizanne Kapp and Shabnim Ismail, who reached a special milestone of 100 wickets. Ismail became the fourth woman in T20I Women’s cricket to enter the 100 club.
Pakistan never really got going in terms of partnerships, except for the 43-run partnership between 16-year-old Ayesha Naseem and Nida Dar. Pakistan managed to post a total of 124-8.
South Africa then came out to bat, which saw a new pair open the batting, in Lizelle Lee and Tazmin Brits. They had a 38-run partnership before Lee was caught by Nida Dar on the boundary.
Marizanne Kapp then came in at 3, forming a 69-run partnership with Brits. Brits played an outstanding knock, rotating the strike frequently. She brought her 50 up off 51 balls with just 3 fours.
Kapp was stumped by Muneeba Ali for a well-played 28. Wolvaardt and Brits chased down the score with an over to spare. Brits finished on 52*.
The Momentum Proteas won the game emphatically by 8 wickets.
