Centuries from Sinethemba Qeshile and Matthew Breetzke against a strong Lions attack, with multiple Proteas bowlers, were the highlight of the most recent round of the 4-Day Series.

Qeshile notched up his second ton in FC cricket, and equaled his personal-best score of 124 in the first innings. A breezy 71 from Jordan Hermann set the tone, and Qeshile, along with skipper Rudi Second, stitched up a 136-run stand for the 5th wicket.

In response, Ryan Rickelton made a swashbuckling 125 from 112, as his rich form continued across formats. The Lions first innings was studded with 60’s from each of the top 3 – Josh Richards, Dom Hendricks, and the newly appointed Test skipper Temba Bavuma.

Even though the game ended in a draw, Breetzke stole the show in the second innings. He added 99 runs with Kyle Jacobs, and as wickets regularly fell around him, he continued to hold the fort at one end. This was the sixth century in first-class cricket for the talented right-hander. The Lions bowling attack was boosted by the return of Kagiso Rabada, but the Warriors batters were equal to the task when it came to counterattacking and applying pressure.

Warriors 438 (Qeshile 124 – Sipamla 4/77) + 255/7 (Breetzke 102*)

Lions 433 (Rickelton 125)

Keshav Maharaj led from the front with brilliance as Sarel Erwee dazzled as well, en route to an emphatic 280-run win for the Dolphins. Erwee have been dropped from the Test team, but he returned to the domestic scene with a fantastic 132 in the second innings.

Maharaj was all class, as he claimed 11 wickets across both innings, providing key breakthroughs and wrapping up the game with little difficulty.

Dolphins 253 + 336/6d (Erwee 132)
Knights 165 (Maharaj 5/62) + 145 (Maharaj 6/43)

The match between WP and North West at Potchefstroom was mostly rained out, but the visitors managed to score a solid 345 in their first innings. Kyle Verreynne impressed, and Kyle Simmonds built on his SA20 success and top-scored with an unbeaten 70.
