Boland and Western Province picked up vital wins on Day 3 of the One Day Cup.

It was a hot sunny day at Newlands as WSB Western Province took on the NW Dragons.

The hosts were looking to pick up their first win of the campaign after suffering defeat to the Lions in their opening game.

The Dragons won the toss and chose to bat, however this decision did not favour them at all as Western Province’s bowling attack was simply outstanding, limiting the visitors to 145 all out.

Raynardt van Tonder was the standout batsman of the innings scoring 55 (79 balls).

There were wickets all around for the Province bowling attack, with Kyle Simmonds being the standout performer taking 4-21. Other wicket-takers were Dane Patterson (1-33), George Linde (2-32), Mihlali Mpongwana (1-28), Wesley Bedja (1-16) and Onke Nyaku (1-13).

Province was exceptional with the bat, Kyle Verreynne scoring 47* (44 balls) and Edward Moore scoring 42 (54 balls) helping Western Province cruise to the total needed and also securing the bonus point.

On the other side of the Cape, Boland was up against the Dolphins as they were looking to make it 2 wins from 2.

Dolphins won the toss and chose to bat which also proved to not go in their favour, as the hosts also bowled extremely well restricting them to only 174.

Bryce Parsons was the standout batter of the innings scoring 50 (85 balls).

Spin proved to be the dominant force for Boland again as all their spinners took wickets.

Imran Manack once again showed his brilliance with the ball, as he took 4-24. The other wicket-takers for Boland were Aviwe Mgijima (3-26), Siyabonga Mahima (2-27) and Shaun von Berg (1-29).

Two half centuries from Grant Roelofsen 52 (62 balls) and Gavin Kaplan 50 (81 balls) helped Boland reach their target which also secured the bonus point.
