The second game of Day 2 was played between the Thistles and the Duchesses.

The Thistles batted first, posting a score of 148 runs, the highest of the tournament so far. An outstanding 90-run partnership between the opening pair, Trisha Chetty and Nonkululeko Thabethe was crucial to their dominance.

Chetty scored an aggressive 45 off 37 balls, while Thabethe was more cautious, scoring 43 off 50. This partnership set the innings up well for the middle order.

The Duchesses’ innings started off in the worst way possible, with Faye Tunnicliffe being run out off the first ball of the innings courtesy of a direct hit from the Thistles captain, Tumi Sekhukhune.

The Duchesses’ skipper Sune Luus came in 3rd, with another fighting innings in vain. She was dismissed by 21-year-old Nobulumko Baneti off a good-length ball, miscuing one to Courtney Gouden at fine leg.

This relinquished any hope of the Duchesses stealing a victory. Baneti then took 3 more wickets, putting the final nail in the coffin. She ended with figures of 4/18 off 3 overs.

The Thistles won by 36 runs.
