International cricketing superstar and Titans and Proteas legend, AB de Villiers has come on board as one of the coaches for the Titans Cricket Black African Batting Camp.
The Black African Batting Camp was set up during the winter of 2023 with the purpose of fast tracking the development of talented black African batters and the inclusion of AB de Villiers as a coach will no doubt accelerate the players development.
The first edition saw Momentum Multiply Titans coaching staff mentor a group of five promising batters, over a three-day period. White Ball captain Sibonelo Makhanya also paid the young men a visit and took part in a net session.
“It’s always great when a former player gives back to the game of cricket and there are none bigger than AB de Villiers.” His inclusion will be massive to the players in the batting camp and will definitely fast track their progress and careers,” said Titans Cricket CEO Dr Jacques Faul.
An objective of Black African Batting Camp is to impact the future of South African cricket and the addition of de Villiers as a coach following the solid start is testament to the growth.
“I’m pleased at the outcome of the first batting camp we had but I think it was important for us to assess where we could make improvements. I can’t think of a better addition we could’ve made to mentor the young batters and I’m looking forward to see AB’s impact.” Faul concluded.
The 2024 Black African Batting Camp will take part during the winter and the number of players has grown from the five who took part in the first edition in 2023.
