Dom Sibley continued his momentum from Day 3 to score his maiden century at Newlands on Day 4 and take England’s lead to 421, writes Naeemah Benjamin.
With an overnight lead of 264 runs, the first session on the fourth day of the second Test belonged to England who batted and bruised South Africa.
For the first 75 minutes and stretched their lead past 350 in no time before two much-needed wickets by Keshav Maharaj and Kagiso Rabada.
With the hopes of quick wickets and trying to restrict the visitors under 350, the first session did not exactly go the way the Proteas would’ve hoped.
They were flat and the tactics by Faf du Plessis were questionable. Dwaine Pretorius continued his over from last night and shared the ball with Keshav Maharaj.
Ben Stokes in particular entertained the Newlands crowd and notched up a fluent fifty from just 34 deliveries.
He continued his destruction and piled on the runs tiring out a flattened bowling attack.
Maharaj who brought up his century (in runs against him) and went wicketless got some respite and ended the carnage of Stokes 72 from 47 balls including 7 fours and 3 sixes.
Dom Sibley brought up his maiden Test ton. A knock filled with confidence and composure that put England in the driving seat.
