The race for the final two Super 8 places in the 2026/27 YesPlay Pro20 Cup will go down to the final weekend of group-stage action, with six teams still fighting to keep their qualification hopes alive.
While the Momentum Multiply Titans, Dafabet Boland and YesPlay Cobras have already secured qualification from Pool A, the fourth spot remains wide open, with four teams still mathematically in contention.
In Pool B, the Dafabet Warriors, Hollywoodbets Dolphins and DP World Lions have booked their places in the next round, leaving the Garden Route Badgers and North West Dragons battling for the final qualifying position.
Pool A: Four teams fighting for one spot
The Momentum Multiply Titans have set the standard in this season’s competition, winning all six of their matches to remain the only unbeaten team heading into the final weekend.
Dafabet Boland and YesPlay Cobras have also secured their places in the Super 8s, with both sides recording five victories. Boland currently sit second in the standings, ahead of the Cobras courtesy of an additional bonus point.
However, the battle for fourth place promises to provide plenty of drama.
Mpumalanga Rhinos currently occupy the final qualifying position with 10 points, level with Kaneez Tuskers. Both Division 2 teams have won two matches and lost three.
The Rhinos hold a crucial advantage, having defeated the Tuskers earlier in the competition. Should both sides finish level on points, the Rhinos would progress on their superior head-to-head record.
The Rhinos face an important trip to Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein on Saturday, where they will take on Flexbrands Knights.
The Tuskers, meanwhile, host the already-qualified Cobras in Pietermaritzburg on Sunday, knowing that victory could be enough to send them through, depending on the Rhinos’ result.
Eastern Storm and Knights still have a chance
World Sports Betting Eastern Storm and Flexbrands Knights are also mathematically in contention, although both require other results to go their way.
Eastern Storm sit fifth with six points after winning just one of their five matches.
They face the already-eliminated CSA High Performance side in Benoni on Sunday and must secure victory while hoping that both the Rhinos and Tuskers lose their final matches.
The Knights face an even more difficult task.
Currently sixth with five points, they need a bonus-point victory over the Rhinos on Saturday, combined with defeats for the three teams above them without those sides collecting any additional points.
It leaves Pool A with several possible outcomes heading into the final weekend, particularly with the Rhinos and Knights meeting in a match that could have a significant impact on qualification.
Pool B: Badgers and Dragons battle for final place
The qualification picture in Pool B is considerably clearer, with three teams already assured of progressing.
The Dafabet Warriors, Hollywoodbets Dolphins and DP World Lions have secured their Super 8 places with one match remaining.
The Garden Route Badgers currently occupy the fourth qualifying position with 17 points, while North West Dragons are still in contention on 13 points.
The Dragons have recorded three victories and three defeats but face a difficult task if they are to overtake the Badgers.
North West must secure a bonus-point victory over the already-eliminated Northern Cape Heat and hope the Badgers lose their final match against the Dolphins.
The Badgers travel to Kingsmead in Durban on Friday to face the second-placed Dolphins, with their qualification hopes in their own hands.
A victory would remove any uncertainty and secure their place in the Super 8s.
For the Dragons, the equation is simple: they must win with a bonus point and hope the result in Durban goes their way.
Eastern Cape Iinyathi and Wenbro Impalas have already been eliminated from Pool B, joining Northern Cape Heat among the teams unable to progress.
Final weekend promises plenty of drama
With six of the eight Super 8 places already secured, attention now turns to the final qualifying positions in both pools.
Pool A presents the more complicated scenario, with Mpumalanga Rhinos, Kaneez Tuskers, World Sports Betting Eastern Storm and Flexbrands Knights all still mathematically capable of progressing.
The Rhinos have the advantage heading into the weekend, but their meeting with the Knights and the Tuskers’ clash against the Cobras could prove decisive.
In Pool B, the Garden Route Badgers are in a stronger position, but North West Dragons will be hoping for an opportunity to snatch the final place.
By the end of the weekend, the eight teams progressing to the next stage of the 2026/27 YesPlay Pro20 Cup will be confirmed.
