Temba Bavuma heartbreakingly lost his wicket on 93 as the Proteas posted 314-8 at Lunch on Day 2 of the 1st Test against Bangladesh.
The Proteas had a difficult morning with the bat. In fact, it went according to Bangladesh’s script.
Khaled Ahmed was excellent for the Tigers with the new ball, he dismissed Kyle Verreynne (28) and Wiaan Mulder (0) which rocked SA’s chances of reaching the 300-run mark.
Dropped by Yasir Ali on 77, Bavuma continued to add runs to his and the team’s tally.
A 53-run partnership with Keshav Maharaj took to Proteas to 298.
F Bavuma faced five deliveries from Mehidy Hasan Miraz that never turned much and he played the ball out well. The sixth ball in the over it spun out of nowhere, over six degrees, and knocked over Bavuma’s leg stump. He was on 93 closing in on that elusive 2nd ton.
Maharaj lost his wicket shortly after having contributed a much-needed 40-ball 19.
South Africa managed to go past 300 before lunch, Lizaad Williams and Simon Harmer adding 16 to take them to 314-8.
