Lara Goodall says she is happy to repay her support structure’s faith in her ability after her match-winning performance in the 4th ODI against India in Lucknow.
Goodall scored 59* off 66 balls to see the Momentum Proteas over the line in the fourth ODI against India.
“Obviously I’m feeling really good at the minute. It was nice to get the team over the line. The personal milestone was good, but to be there in the end and win the game after grafting so hard in the middle with Mignon and Marizanne”.
After the game, Goodall was embraced by a lot of her teammates and said: “It’s a good feeling because a lot of my teammates have always believed in me and I haven’t always repaid that faith out on the field, so today for it to come together was amazing.”
Referring to the middle order and the way they batted today, Lara said: “We owe it to Lizelle and Laura, today was for them, because they’ve always given us the starts up top.”
Lara stated that she took a different approach in terms of her batting for this series. “I looked at myself deeply and I saw that I needed to improve a lot to become a mainstay in this Proteas line up. There is a slot open in that middle order which I want to make mine.
“I owe a lot to coach Hilton, who’s always backed me, and Dinesha Devnarain who I’ve worked with at High-Performance Centre a lot back home, who’s also helped me a lot and always backed me.
“I took a different approach mentally, because I’ve felt like I’ve always had the shots and I’ve always had the ability to bat, but I think mentally was where I had to make that shift.”
