We wrap up the final day of the fourth round of 4-Day Franchise Series fixtures.
Cobras vs Warriors
After picking up two early wickets yesterday the Cobras were in with a slight chance. Jade de Klerk 14 (69) hung around in a 65-run stand to keep extending their lead before Yaseen Vallie 78 and Rudi Second 84* took away any chance of a result. Jon-Jon Smuts remained unbeaten on 19* alongside Second in a 51-run stand.
It was a wicketless innings for the home side’s bowlers except for their skipper Dane Piedt who picked up 4/69
The teams shook hands and agreed on the draw. The Cobras are yet to win a game and are fifth on the log whilst the Warriors are fourth.
Lions vs Dolphins
The Dolphins after following on lost a flurry of wickets and Sibonelo Makhanya resuming on 75* couldn’t do much damage on the final day as he was dismissed for 76. Despite some resistance by Robbie Frylinck 28 (47) and Lwandiswa Zuma 4 (55).
The Lions thrash the Dolphins by an innings and 15 runs.
Malusi Siboto was the chief destroyer in this innings with 3/59 with Pongolo, Dwaine and Migael Pretorius all claiming 2 apiece with the latter finishing with 7 wickets in the match.
The Lions are first on the log and the Dolphins last and are still winless.
Knights vs Titans.
Cricket truly is a special game, isn’t it? The Titans who were staring an innings defeat right in the eye fought back superbly to draw the match.
The opening pair got the visiting team off to a dream start with a 203-run stand both Victor Bafana Mahlangu and Wesley Marshall was dismissed in the 90’s but their hard work was not in vain.
Neil Brand and Heinrich Klaasen scored 10 and 30 respectively but they hung around and made a result look all the more unlikely if the rest of their batters could just hang on as well. Farhaan Behardien proving once again what a pivotal player he is to his side with 81 off 132.
All hail Junior Dala who played a “blockathon” of note scoring 11* off 92 alongside Lungi Ngidi 5 off 49 who hung around and ground out the draw.
Shaun von Berg took 4/92.
The Knights are second on the log and the Titans behind at 3.
