We asked Lubabalo Skhosana to compile his Team of the Week for the 4-Day Series, but we would also like to know yours.
It was a heavy scoring first round of matches in Division 1 of the 4-Day Series with 5 centuries and 2 double centuries scored. We witnessed some really special performances in the opening matches of this season and hopefully, the season carries on from here.
1. Eddie Moore – 110
A ton for the Warriors in a match that provided an exciting finish against the Titans. Eddie Moore is also one of those guys who have been banging down the selectors’ doors consistently. His form dropped a bit last season so will be interesting to see how he bounces back.
2. Janneman Malan – 200*
Currently one of the fan favourites in SA cricket, Janneman Malan has also been consistently raising his hand up for selection which has seen him get picked and play for the Proteas white-ball teams. Some could question why I am having him opening even though he just scored a double hundred batting at 4 for Boland. Not really a big shift for him honestly because he has opened more than he has batted at 4. The balance of the side also requires him to open
3. Ryan Rickelton (wk) (c) – 159
Ryan is probably one of the most underrated cricketers in the country. He has been doing well for the Lions for a couple of seasons now.
4. Pite van Biljon – 137
Currently one of the guys who have been around for a while in domestic cricket. Pite remains a core of the Knights batting order and continues to show his experience for the side. A good player to have in any middle order.
5. Khaya Zondo – 203
Another player worth having in your middle order because he often is someone you can rely on one. Khaya, after giving an emotional speech to the Dolphins players in the morning of the match, went on to lead the way with the bat. After a slow start, he came into his own and played a classy innings.
6. Jason Smith – 101
Many had been asking for hundreds from this young man and he definitely responded with a quality one against his old side on debut for the Dolphins. He and Zondo really took the game away from Western Province.
7. Bryce Parsons
I have him as an all-rounder in the side even though he opened the batting for the Dolphins. Picked up 7 in the match on debut.
8. Kyle Simmonds
The all-rounder picked up only 4 wickets but bowled in one innings. Thought maybe having a second spinner could do the team well.
9. Glenton Stuurman
The speedster picked up 6 wickets in the match and is currently one of the best new-ball bowlers in the country. Someone the Proteas will still be looking at for a possible debut in the test arena.
10. Darryn Dupavillon
He picked up 5 in the match. Needed some pace to pair it up with Glenton and who better than Dupavillon?
11. Marco Jansen
This was a “coach’s pick”. Only just 4 wickets in the match but showed great skill and accuracy with the ball. Definitely one for the future is Marco Jansen.
Special mention – Fersico Adams Scored 127 batting at 9.
